No mention of “The Desert Sessions”? For shame.

Ya, realised that a couple hours after posting – huge fail considering at least 60% of that material ended up on QOTSA albums.

To set the record straight, I have all 9 volumes 😉

Strangely, I felt similar about Eva Vulgaris but after a few months I harden up and love it now.
So, in Homme we will have to trust

I also felt that way about Era Vulgaris now that I think about it. I remember telling a buddy “They’ve gone too far, it’s a mess” which is hilarious when I think back on it because Era Vulgaris is one of my favourite albums of theirs.

In Homme we trust. Well said.

“My God Is The Sun” (plays around 11:00 in the video) has been playing daily on Triple J over here and developed quite a following. It does feel more Lullabies To Paralyze (not my favourite) than Rated R to me but nonetheless, it sounds damned good. The rest of that video’s music? Not so much. It’s difficult to explain what’s missing but it’s almost like they are only playing at 50% of their capacity for awesome.

BTW you are still no match for one of my mates as a fan of all things Homme – he named his son Kyuss. He also flew to LA on a Saturday morning to see QOTSA perform so he could get his guitar autographed and then flew straight back to oz the Sunday morning, going from the airport to the show and back to the airport again. Is he crazy? Nope, he just has an (extreme) appreciation for good music 🙂

Definitely a huge Lullabies To Paralyze influence on the new album, which is interesting because Homme has said in a number of different interviews that Lullabies came out of a very dark time in both his life and the life of the band. If memory serves, that’s when they booted Oliveri because of the rumours going around that the dude was trying to get it on with underage groupies.

I’m also struggling to put my finger on what’s missing. I mean Christ, they got Grohl back behind the kit! That should be a surefire recipe for instant success right there. Having said that, “If I Had A Tail” (the video with the badass girl throwing molotov cocktails out the car window) is growing on me fast. “Buy flash cars / Diamond rings / Expensive holes / To bury things…”

Your mate sounds like a total badass, a man after my own black heart. Next time you see him, tell him the Tiger salutes him for fighting the good fight 😉
